Internships Abroad with Abroad Escape
Abroad Escape helps students and graduates find internships abroad that fit their field, experience, dates and goals, with practical advice before they apply.
An internship abroad is about more than choosing a destination. Before you apply, you should know what the placement involves, whether you are eligible, how much supervision you will receive, where you will live and what is included in the program.
We work with established international program partners to offer selected internships in destinations such as Bali, Spain, Cape Verde, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zanzibar, across fields including healthcare, education, business and other professional areas. We’ll help you understand the options and decide which one makes sense for you before you apply.
I've been involved in international travel programs since 2006, and over the years I've learned that what looks good on a website doesn't necessarily tell you what the experience will actually be like.
That's why, when we look at an internship, I want to understand who delivers it, what the student will actually do, what support is available and whether the program matches what they're looking for.
An internship abroad is a big decision, particularly if you're travelling overseas for the first time. I don't think every program is right for every student, and I don't want to sell you something that isn't a good fit.
My aim is simple: give you the information you need, answer your questions honestly and help you decide whether the internship makes sense for you.
Why Book Your Internship Through Abroad Escape?
Choosing an internship abroad means spending money, taking time away from your studies and travelling to a place you may not know.
I've been involved in international volunteer and internship travel since 2006, and one thing I've learned is that a good-looking program description doesn't tell you everything you need to know.
That's why we don't just send you a link and leave you to work it out yourself. We help you understand what the internship involves, whether it fits your background and what you should realistically expect before you decide.
Practical advice before you apply
Tell us what you're studying, where you'd like to go, when you want to travel and what you hope to get from the internship. We'll help you work out which options are worth looking at.
Clear information about the program
We want you to know what you're paying for. That includes the placement itself, accommodation, meals, support, eligibility requirements and anything you need to arrange separately.
Realistic expectations
An international internship isn't necessarily the same as working in a professional role at home. What you can do will depend on the placement, your qualifications, local rules and the level of supervision available. We explain those limitations before you decide.

How Our Internship Programs Work
The process is straightforward, but I recommend speaking to us before you book. The right internship depends on your studies or experience, the type of work you want to do, your dates and the requirements of the particular placement.
Tell us what you're looking for
Tell us what you are studying or doing, which field interests you, where you'd like to go and when you want to travel.
Check the program requirements
Every internship is different. Some are open to students with limited experience, while others require a particular course of study or experience.
Apply for the internship
Once you've decided on a program, you complete the application and provide the documents required for that placement.
Prepare for your internship abroad
Once your placement is confirmed, you'll receive the information you need to prepare for your trip.
Arrive and start your internship
The local program partner takes care of the in-country side of the program, including the placement, orientation and local support specified for your internship.
What's Included in an Internship Abroad?
The exact package varies by destination and internship, but selected programs can include accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation, placement coordination and local support.
Before you book, we will make clear what is included in your particular program and what you will need to arrange yourself.
Accommodation
Accommodation is arranged as part of many of the programs, but the type varies. Depending on the destination, you may stay with a host family, in shared accommodation or at a dedicated program residence.
Meals
Some programs include meals, while others provide fewer meals or none. This is something to check for the specific internship rather than assume.
Airport pickup and orientation
Where included, airport pickup helps you get from the airport to your accommodation when you arrive. Most programs also include an orientation covering practical information such as local customs, transport, safety and what to expect from your placement.
Internship placement and local support
The internship itself is delivered by the local program partner. Depending on the program, you may have a placement supervisor, local coordinator or other in-country support during your stay.
What you pay separately
Flights, visas, travel insurance and personal spending are generally not included unless the individual program says otherwise. Some programs also have additional costs for things such as local transport, optional activities or extra accommodation.
Always check the individual program page for the exact inclusions and exclusions before booking.
Who Are These Internships For?
Our internships are mainly aimed at students, recent graduates and people building experience in a particular field. Some programs are suitable for students early in their studies, while others have specific academic or professional requirements.
Healthcare internships are a good example. A medical student may be eligible for a placement that someone without a relevant background is not, and the amount of practical participation can depend on qualifications and local regulations.
If you are unsure whether your background fits, ask us before applying. That is exactly the sort of question we can help with.
Internships Abroad FAQs
Do I need to be a university student to apply?
Not always. Requirements vary by internship. Some programs accept graduates or participants with relevant experience, while others require you to be studying a particular subject.
How long are the internships?
It depends on the program. Each internship page gives the available durations and any minimum stay.
Will I get hands-on experience?
That depends on the internship, your qualifications and the placement provider. In healthcare, for example, observation may be the main activity, with practical tasks only where they are permitted and supervised.
Is accommodation included?
Many programs include accommodation, but the type varies by destination. Check the individual program for the exact arrangement.
Can my university give me academic credit?
Possibly, but your university decides whether a particular placement meets its academic requirements. We can provide information about the program for you to discuss with your university.
