I've been involved in volunteer travel since 2006, when I started GapXperience.
Over the years, I've worked with travellers, volunteer programs and independent local partners in different parts of the world. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly, and I've learned that what looks good on a website doesn't always tell you what the actual experience will be like.
That's one of the reasons I created Abroad Escape.
I don't believe there is one volunteer program that's right for everyone. It depends on where you want to go, what you want to do, how long you have, your budget and what you're looking for from the experience.
My job is to help you work through those choices, understand what you're actually getting, and find a program that makes sense for you.
