Préparez-vous à un accueil chaleureux à Zanzibar ! Votre programme commence dès votre arrivée, avec notre accueil à l’aéroport de Nairobi le dimanche à l’aéroport. Afin de garantir une transition en douceur, nous vous fournirons toutes les informations nécessaires concernant votre arrivée et vos contacts lors de la réservation de votre programme. L’équipe locale vous attendra, prête à vous transférer à votre hébergement.

Pour démarrer ce voyage, vous commencerez par une séance d’orientation. Les stagiaires auront l’occasion de se familiariser avec la culture, la langue et les coutumes locales.
Accommodation
Votre hébergement est compris dans votre forfait du dimanche soir au samedi matin de votre dernière semaine, vous pouvez donc être assuré que vous aurez un endroit confortable où vous sentir chez vous tout au long de votre voyage.
Vous serez logé dans des chambres partagées avec d’autres volontaires, ce qui vous donnera l’occasion de vous faire des amis pour la vie dans le monde entier. Vous serez logés dans des chambres de type dortoir non mixtes, ce qui vous assurera un maximum de confort et d’intimité.
Mais ce n’est pas tout : nous nous occupons également de vos repas ! Vous bénéficierez de trois délicieux repas par jour du lundi au vendredi, et de deux repas par jour le week-end.

This is an excellent opportunity for medical professionals and prospective medical/nursing students to broaden their knowledge of healthcare delivery. Depending on your qualifications, you may also be able to provide medical assistance to community members who have limited access to healthcare resources.
Located in the heart of historic Stone Town, the local Hospital has been serving the community since its establishment in 1923. Situated next to the esteemed state house of Zanzibar, it stands as the primary referral hospital for both islands comprising Zanzibar. Comprising three distinct buildings, including the main facility at Mnazi Mmoja, a maternity hospital at Mwembeladu, and a mental health facility at Kidongo Chekundu, this hospital offers a comprehensive range of services essential to a referral center.
Esteemed as the teaching hospital for health colleges and universities on the island, this institution plays a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare professionals. It serves as a beacon of knowledge and expertise, empowering the healthcare workforce and benefiting the communities it diligently serves. However, the persisting challenges of medical equipment and supply shortages pose obstacles to achieving the United Nations’ third goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Good Health and Well-Being.
To actively engage in the hospital’s medical program, participants are required to possess relevant medical experience and/or a background in healthcare. This prerequisite enables them to shadow and gain valuable insights into healthcare service delivery. Based on their skill level and experience, participants will be assigned a range of tasks aimed at assisting the hospital and extending support to individuals with limited access to affordable and quality healthcare.
By joining this program, participants have the opportunity to contribute their knowledge and skills to the hospital while also making a meaningful difference in the lives of community members. Additionally, participants can make a valuable impact by donating additional resources and supplies, bridging the financial gap and fostering support for the local community.
The local hospital was established around 1923. It is right next to the Zanzibar State House in the heart of historic Stone Town. It serves as the primary referral hospital for both of Zanzibar’s islands. It consists of three hospital buildings, the main one in Mnazi Mmoja, and the other two in Mwembeladu (maternity hospital) and Kidongo Chekundu (mental hospital). It offers the majority of the services available at many referral hospitals, including, but not limited to, ENT services, OB/GYN, ICU, Pediatrics, eye care, general surgeries, and many others.
As the primary referral hospital, it also serves as a teaching hospital for the island’s health colleges and universities. In this capacity, this healthcare provider is a true resource for the communities it serves. Shortages of medical equipment and supplies contribute to a variety of health issues in Tanzania, posing a significant challenge to achieving the third goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – health and well-being. As a result, to shadow and learn more about healthcare service delivery, participants in the Hospital medical program must have some medical experience and/or background. You will be assigned a variety of tasks to help out in the hospital based on your medical skill level and experience, thereby serving those who have limited access to affordable, quality health care.
Participants in this program can help the hospital by sharing their knowledge and skills, donating extra resources/supplies, bridging the financial gap, and supporting local community members.
Some tasks/duties may include but are not limited to, observing and/or monitoring patients, treatment techniques, and providing health outreach information, among others.

Throughout the weekdays, from Monday to Friday, you will immerse yourself in a fulfilling experience at the local center or hospital, devoting at least five hours each day to assisting with healthcare service provision. This structured routine is designed to maximize your impact and create meaningful connections with the community.
The day will commence with a nourishing breakfast, energizing you for the rewarding tasks ahead. You will then dedicate your time to supporting healthcare services, working alongside dedicated professionals who share your passion for making a positive difference. By actively engaging in patient care, you will witness firsthand the transformative power of compassionate healthcare.
A well-deserved lunch break will provide you with an opportunity to rejuvenate and reflect on the impact you’ve already made. Following this interval, you will eagerly return to continue your contributions, ensuring the seamless delivery of healthcare services to those in need.
As the day draws to a close, you will partake in a satisfying dinner, fostering camaraderie and connection among fellow participants and healthcare professionals. These shared moments will not only nourish your body but also nourish your spirit, as you reflect on the meaningful work accomplished throughout the day.
