Our Program Partner: The Green Lion
Abroad Escape helps you choose and book the right volunteer abroad program. Many programs are operated on the ground by The Green Lion, with local teams, coordinators, accommodation, meals, airport pickup, project support and day-to-day guidance where included.
Our partner relationships go back to 2006
We explain this clearly because you should know who does what before you book. Abroad Escape helps you compare destinations, dates, project types, prices and support. The Green Lion operates the local program where they are the ground partner.

Who Is The Green Lion?
According to The Green Lion Impact Report 2025, The Green Lion began in Thailand in 1998 under the name Greenway. The report says the organisation started with responsible tourism and grassroots volunteer projects, then expanded across Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific.
The Green Lion describes its work as locally managed and long-term. The report also states that The Green Lion works across 45 countries, 100+ locations and 250+ programs.
Those are Green Lion’s wider network figures. They do not mean every program is available through Abroad Escape at all times. Your proposal confirms the current destination, project, local support, what is included, what is not included, total price and next steps before you book.
The Green Lion does not sell directly to individual participants.

Why We Name Our Program Partner
Many volunteer abroad websites do not clearly explain who runs the program locally. That can make it hard for students and parents to know what happens after booking.
We prefer to be direct. Abroad Escape helps with planning, guidance and booking. Local delivery is handled by the local team and program partner where listed, including The Green Lion on selected programs.
This is not just an SEO point. It is practical. Before you travel, you should know who helps you choose the program, who supports you locally, what is included, and what still needs to be confirmed.
Our Relationship With The Green Lion
Abroad Escape has a long-term, close working relationship with The Green Lion. Our founder’s volunteer travel experience and partner relationships go back to 2006.
We do not present Abroad Escape as The Green Lion. We are not the local operator. We are the guidance, proposal and booking layer for travellers who want help choosing the right program before they commit.
That help can be important if you are comparing several countries, travelling alone for the first time, unsure about project type, trying to understand the total price, or helping your son or daughter choose a realistic program.
What Abroad Escape Helps With
- Choosing a destination that fits your dates, budget and confidence level.
- Comparing project types such as teaching, childcare, medical, conservation, construction, culture and internships.
- Explaining what is included and what is not included before you book.
- Helping you avoid programs that do not fit your expectations or background.
- Preparing a clear proposal with destination, duration, price, local support and next steps.
- Answering parent questions before a deposit is paid.
What The Green Lion Handles Locally
Where The Green Lion is the local program partner, their teams manage the in-country experience. Depending on the destination and program, this can include accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation, local coordinators, project relationships, local transport and day-to-day program delivery.
The exact setup is not identical in every country. That is why we confirm the details in your proposal before you book.
Policies Parents Usually Ask About
The Green Lion Impact Report 2025 includes policies on child protection, animal welfare and zero tolerance for drugs.
The child protection policy says The Green Lion is committed to safeguarding children across supported projects and does not tolerate abuse, exploitation, violence or neglect.
The animal welfare policy says animal wellbeing comes before visitor experience. It also says animal interaction is strictly limited and that riding, feeding or petting animals is not permitted.
The zero-tolerance drug policy is included for the safety of participants, staff and the communities involved in the programs.
These policies do not mean every program is right for every traveller. They do show that there are written standards behind the partner network.
What The Green Lion Impact Report Shows
The Green Lion Impact Report 2025 gives useful background on The Green Lion’s wider project network. The report includes examples across education, childcare, medical and healthcare, construction and renovation, sports coaching, farming, women’s empowerment, food support, cultural immersion, environmental conservation, sea turtle conservation, wildlife conservation and animal rescue.
We use this report as partner context. We do not claim that Abroad Escape personally delivered every result listed in the report. The numbers below are reported by The Green Lion in its 2025 Impact Report.
Education and Childcare Examples From the Report
- Thailand teaching projects reached more than 1,500 students across 12 local schools.
- Thailand kindergarten programs supported 18 local preschools and kindergartens, reaching more than 850 students.
- Vietnam English teaching supported 550 students through the work of 81 volunteers.
- Vietnam kindergarten and childcare support reached 840 children through the work of 116 volunteers.
- Madagascar teaching support directly reached 860 students.
- Costa Rica childcare support directly impacted 675 children and indirectly supported 1,600 community members.
- South Korea education and childcare support helped 1,786 children from low-income and multicultural families.
Medical and Healthcare Examples From the Report
- Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City Medical Placement program involved 321 volunteers and directly benefited 1,533 patients.
- Sri Lanka’s Medical Outreach Program provided 420 people with free check-ups and health screenings.
- The Philippines medical program in Aborlan, Palawan included prenatal and immunisation support, home visits for elderly and sick residents, and hygiene education in local schools.
Medical and healthcare programs need extra care. Your role depends on your age, study level, training, experience and the rules of the local setting. Do not assume every medical program is hands-on. Ask us before choosing.
Conservation and Environmental Examples From the Report
- The Philippines Aborlan Mangrove Project planted 50,036 mangrove seedlings and restored over 32,000 square metres of coastline.
- Thailand environmental conservation work planted 1,221 mangrove trees and removed 842kg of beach waste.
- Sri Lanka turtle conservation work collected 3,200 eggs, released 3,185 hatchlings and rehabilitated 21 disabled turtles.
- The report also lists sea turtle conservation, environmental conservation, wildlife conservation and animal rescue and rehabilitation as wider program areas.
If you are interested in wildlife or conservation, ask what the current project actually involves. A responsible project should explain the role clearly and avoid animal-contact promises that are not appropriate.
Construction, Renovation and Community Examples From the Report
- Sri Lanka completed 10 major construction and renovation projects focused on preschools, classrooms and community centres.
- Costa Rica construction work directly improved the lives of 490 people and indirectly reached 1,720 community members.
- Cape Verde kindergarten renovation work helped create a safer learning environment for 50 children.
- Malawi construction work directly impacted 1,215 people and indirectly benefited 7,200 community members.
Food Support and Disaster Support Examples From the Report
- South Korea’s Seoul Soup Kitchen directly supported 48,400 people facing homelessness.
- The Philippines Aborlan Flood Relief Project directly supported 426 people affected by flooding.
- Cape Verde food support in Tarrafal provided one-month rations to 15 families, directly benefiting 75 people.
The Wyld Orange Foundation
The Green Lion Impact Report 2025 also describes the Wyld Orange Foundation, the non-profit arm of The Green Lion. The report says the foundation was established in 2024 and works across education, environment, and health and wellbeing projects.
According to the report, the foundation operates across 11 countries, supports 16 projects and reaches 1,000+ beneficiaries.
This is Green Lion foundation activity. It should not be presented as work run directly by Abroad Escape.
What This Means Before You Book
If you are comparing volunteer abroad programs, this relationship helps you ask better questions.
- Who helps me choose before I book?
- Who operates the program locally?
- Who picks me up where airport pickup is included?
- Where do I stay?
- What meals are included?
- Who supports me after arrival?
- What does a normal week look like?
- What is my actual project role?
- What should my parents know before I pay a deposit?
Abroad Escape helps you work through these questions. We will not tell you every program is right for you. Some programs may be too far, too basic, too independent, too expensive, or not suitable for your experience level.
Who This Is Useful For
This partner model is useful if you want support before choosing. It is especially helpful for first-time solo travellers, students, parents, medical or healthcare students, gap year travellers and anyone comparing several destinations.
It may not be right if you already know exactly what you want, do not need guidance, and only want the fastest possible booking process.
