MEANINGFUL VOLUNTEER ABROAD PROGRAMS WITH ABROAD ESCAPE
Join community-based volunteer projects across Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. Connect with locals, and create a lasting impact.
20 Years of Meaningful Travel
Our team has been organizing volunteer travel since the sector's early days, originally starting as GapXperience in 2006. After navigating the post-Covid travel landscape as Beyond Volunteer, we evolved into Abroad Escape. Over these two decades, we have maintained a close, exclusive partnership with our primary in-country operational team, The Green Lion.
You can join projects across Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe. Our core focus includes conversational English teaching, wildlife and marine conservation, local building projects, childcare support, and cultural immersion weeks.
Every trip balances meaningful daily project work with realistic travel expectations and trusted support on the ground.
Why The Green Lion?
Many placement agencies cut operational costs by constantly shifting between different local third-party providers. We refuse to do that.
We work exclusively with The Green Lion because a reliable in-country experience requires complete consistency. They manage the daily logistics, coordinate the projects, and provide a clear framework on the ground.
This keeps things straightforward: Abroad Escape handles your pre-departure planning and booking, while their trained local coordinators look after you from the moment you arrive.

"Volunteering with Abroad Escape was the best trip and the best experience of my life. Full stop. I did not expect to say that before I left — but that is exactly how I feel having come back."

"The teaching program was a great experience. The children I worked with were smart, enthusiastic, and genuinely willing to learn — which made every session rewarding. The structure of the program meant I knew what I was doing each day, which made it easy to focus entirely on the work."

I had an amazing time in volunteering with Abroad Escape. I was happy with the whole experience and would love to go back in the future!
Questions Before You Choose
Straightforward answers for first-time travellers and their families.
Is Abroad Escape suitable for first-time travellers?
Absolutely. We regularly work with students, gap year explorers, and people heading overseas independently for the very first time. The trick is simply finding a project that offers the right balance of daily structure and reliable on-the-ground guidance.
Who supports travellers locally?
Once you land, your day-to-day experience is managed by our trusted in-country partners. For instance, our exclusive partner The Green Lion handles everything from airport pickups to project coordination in many of our destinations. We take care of your pre-departure planning, and they look after you 24/7 on the ground.
What is usually included in a volunteer abroad program?
You should never have to guess what you are paying for. Most of our setups cover your accommodation, daily meals, airport transfers, and local coordination. Since every destination varies slightly, we always clarify exactly what is covered before you commit to anything.
Do I need experience to volunteer abroad?
Not at all. The vast majority of our community, conservation, and teaching projects are completely beginner-friendly. You will get a full orientation and on-site training when you arrive so you feel entirely confident before starting your project.
Can parents contact Abroad Escape before booking?
We strongly encourage it. Sending a son or daughter overseas is a big deal. Family members are always welcome to reach out to us directly to discuss safety protocols, vetted housing, airport transfers, and local supervision.
