Vietnam Medical Internship
You'll be shadowing surgeries, checking out departments like anesthesiology and pediatrics, and seeing how traditional medicine works alongside modern healthcare. It's a front-row seat to how medicine actually happens in one of Asia's most intense cities.
You won't be treating patients on your own, but you'll be doing real hospital work – helping with triage, wound care, blood pressure checks, all that stuff. You might also get involved in health campaigns for local communities and schools when they're happening. Plus you'll walk away with a certificate that shows you actually did this.
Here's what you're actually gonna do: shadow doctors, nurses, and therapists during consultations, surgeries, and treatments. You'll move through different departments like physiotherapy, radiology, internal medicine, rehab, and traditional medicine. Everything you do is supervised, so you're learning the whole time.
The whole point is to give you real medical field experience and show you how Vietnam's healthcare system works. You'll see how local hospital staff practice medicine and get a completely different view of international healthcare. It's the kind of experience that'll change how you think about medicine.
Schedule
Monday
Your adventure starts bright and early! On the Monday of the first week, we’ll kick things off with a welcome meeting where you'll learn some essential Vietnamese dos and don’ts, plus get all the info you need to get settled. After that, we’ll take you on a campus tour, showing you all the cool spots like ATMs, restaurants, the gym, pool, coffee shops, and supermarkets.
Next up, it’s time for lunch at the college – refuel and chat with your new travel buddies! In the afternoon, we’ll dive into Vietnamese language basics and some cultural lessons to help you make the most of your experience.
To wrap up the day, we’ll get the group together for fun family-style games and a group dinner. It’s the perfect chance to bond with everyone and start making memories.
Tuesday to Friday
Your first day in the hospital will kick off with a full intro to the facilities and your role. You’ll shadow local doctors, nurses, and therapists in different departments across the hospital. Expect to rotate through areas like surgery, pediatrics, and rehabilitation while observing real-time medical practices.
You'll also get hands-on with tasks like triage, basic wound care, measuring blood pressure, and preparing medications. This is your chance to soak up the skills and knowledge of experienced professionals while getting a unique glimpse into Vietnam’s healthcare system.

Arrival, Orientation, Accommodation & Meals
Your Arrival
Get ready for a warm welcome to Vietnam! Your adventure begins the moment you arrive, with our airport pick-up on Sunday. The local team will be waiting for you, ready to transfer you to your accommodation where you’ll meet fellow volunteers from around the world.
Your Orientation
On Monday, our experienced coordinator will lead an exciting orientation session and cultural immersion. This is your chance to get comfortable with your surroundings and dive into the local culture, while also receiving important health and safety advice.
During the orientation, you’ll receive a comprehensive introduction to your program, accommodations, and the exciting projects that await. Plus, you’ll learn all the do’s and don’ts of local customs, giving you a head start on immersing yourself in the rich and vibrant culture of Vietnam.
Your Accommodation & Meals
Your accommodation is included in your package from Sunday night until Saturday morning of your last week, so you can rest assured that you’ll have a comfortable place to call home throughout your journey.
You’ll be staying in shared rooms with other volunteers, giving you the perfect opportunity to make lifelong friends from around the globe. You’ll be accommodated in single-gender dorm-style rooms, ensuring maximum comfort and privacy. WiFi is available at the volunteer accommodation.
If you want to have a single room, then this is available at an extra cost. There is limited availability for single rooms so please contact us for this.
Meals are also included. You’ll enjoy three delicious meals per day from Monday to Friday, and two meals per day on weekends.

visa, flight, travel insurance, vaccinations, criminal background check, return trip to the airport, admin fee of €95 Euro/£85/$115, and a 5% international banking fee
Requirements to join:
- Participants need to be minimum 18 years old
- Participants are required to provide a criminal background check (if unable to obtain a criminal background check, you can provide two character reference letters instead)
- Participants are required to have their own travel insurance
- You need to be able to speak and understand at least basic English
Additional Requirements
- Be physically and mentally prepared for medical initiatives.
- Preferred background: pre-medical, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational/physical therapy, or related fields
- Submit qualifications and resume
- Recommended vaccinations: Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Diphtheria/Tetanus, Typhoid, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Cholera, and Japanese Encephalitis.
- Yellow Fever vaccination certificate required if arriving from a Yellow Fever risk area.
Clothing
- Modest clothing (covers knees and shoulders)
- Comfortable walking shoes, sandals, water shoes
- Navy scrubs (preferred). Other colors are acceptable, or you can rent scrubs on arrival for $4 per week.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start to apply?
It is best to apply as early as possible as we have limited placements available in our programs, especially during summer.
You can apply up to 1 year in the future to guarantee your placement.
We do however accept late applications up to 2 weeks before the start date, let us know and we will check the availability for you!
Can I volunteer with a friend or a group?
Yes you can! We can organize your program together with a friend, just let us know this in the comment section on the application form.
How long does the application process take?
Very fast with us! You fill out the application form, and we go to work for you within hours! For most placements, you will get an answer within 1-2 days.
Can I get a certificate after the program?
Yes, we will provide you with the Certificate after the successful completion of the program. This certificate is provided on request, so just let us know if you would like this!
