During the week you will learn basic Fijian phrases, take part in traditional ceremonies, and join hands-on cooking sessions that introduce you to local flavors in a relaxed, social way. You will also see how daily life unfolds in town and in the surrounding countryside.

As you move through the week, you will join activities that connect you with the culture and the landscape. You might be sitting in a kava ceremony in the morning, then wandering through markets or learning weaving in the afternoon. On other days, you will be out in nature, walking over sand dunes, swimming under a waterfall, or snorkeling in the clear waters of Maui Bay. Throughout, you share moments with local people and other participants, building a deeper feel for Fiji rather than just passing through.

By the end of the week, you will have a solid sense of how people live, work, and celebrate here. You will know a few phrases, understand key customs, and have visited your future project site, so you can start your volunteer or internship placement feeling prepared, confident, and connected.

Schedule

Monday

Start your orientation with a briefing on safety, transport, and cultural dos and don’ts. Explore Sigatoka town to get to know the main streets, shops, and local facilities, then join a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony with kava tasting.

Tuesday

Join a basic Fijian language class to learn useful phrases and greetings. Trek to a nearby waterfall, relax, and swim in the natural pool, then later take part in a traditional Fijian dance session and learn to sing a local song.

Wednesday

Head to Maui Bay to swim or snorkel in the turquoise water and enjoy the coastal scenery. In the afternoon, take part in a hands-on Fijian cooking session and discover how classic local dishes are prepared and shared.

Thursday

Go on a guided trek through Sand Dunes National Park, walking through jungle trails and along the coastline. Later, attend a weaving workshop and learn how traditional crafts are made and used in Fijian daily life.

Friday

Visit your future project site to see the community work you will be involved in and meet some of the people you will be supporting. Use this time to ask questions, understand the goals of the project, and get ready for the weeks ahead.

Kindergarten in Fiji

Spend your days in a Fijian kindergarten, helping small children learn through play, songs, and simple English while you experience everyday life in a local community. It is a joyful, high-energy environment where you can bring your creativity and leave with unforgettable memories.

More info

Many kindergartens in Fiji are busy and under-resourced, which means teachers appreciate an extra pair of hands in the classroom. You will work with children aged roughly 3 to 6 years old, helping groups of around 20 to 30 with basic English, counting, rhymes, coloring, and simple crafts. Your presence helps teachers spend more time with individual children and makes lessons more interactive and fun.

Alongside classroom time, you will also get involved in games, songs, and story time that keep the kids engaged and excited to learn. During school holidays, the focus shifts to a kids’ club for children aged 5 to 16, where you help run themed lessons, sports, and creative activities. This is a chance to see a different side of community life and to connect with older children too.

Throughout your stay, you will gain experience in a real classroom setting while also learning about Fijian culture, family life, and education. In return, your energy and support help raise the standard of early education in underprivileged areas and give young learners a more positive start.

Schedule

Monday to Friday – Morning (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

Leave the accommodation around 8:30 AM and travel to the kindergarten. Start the morning by welcoming the children and guiding them through interactive lessons using songs, stories, crafts, and games that were prepared with fellow participants.

Monday to Friday – Midday (12:00 PM to 2:00 PM)

Once the school day ends around noon, support teachers as children wrap up and head home safely. You will then discuss plans for the next day with the staff before returning to the accommodation for lunch and some time to rest.

Monday to Friday – Afternoon (from 2:00 PM)

Use the afternoon to plan and prepare activities for the following day with support from local coordinators. This might include making visual aids, organizing lesson materials, or designing new games and crafts to keep learning fresh and engaging.

English Teaching in Fiji

Join a teaching placement on Fiji’s Coral Coast and help students build confidence in English while you experience life at a local school. You will support local teachers, bring in your own ideas for interactive lessons, and create a classroom atmosphere that feels fun, supportive, and inspiring.

More info

In this program, you will work alongside Fijian teachers to deliver lessons that go beyond textbooks. You might help explain English vocabulary, practice conversation, or support other basic subjects, using stories, games, songs, and simple activities to keep students engaged. Your role is not to replace the teacher but to add fresh energy and extra attention for students who need it.

During school holidays, the focus shifts to a Kids Club Holiday Program for children aged 5 to 16. Mornings are dedicated to themed activities and learning through play, while afternoons are for planning and preparation. This balance gives you time in front of the class and time behind the scenes to design better sessions.

Throughout your placement, you will gain experience in a different school system, learn how education works in Fiji, and share your own skills and interests, whether that is music, art, sports, or something else. At the same time, you will help students feel more confident using English in real situations, which can open doors for their future.

Schedule

Monday to Thursday

Spend the school day from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM helping to teach English and related subjects in an interactive way. Use music, arts, crafts, stories, and games to make lessons enjoyable, then use the afternoon time to plan and prepare materials for the following day.

Lunch Break

Share a packed lunch with students and teachers, giving you time to connect informally and observe school life. Use this time to discuss ideas with local staff and adapt your activities to the needs of each class.

Friday

On Fridays, schools focus on sports for all students. From 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM you will join and support these activities, cheering on games and helping to organize teams. In the afternoon, you return to the accommodation to have lunch, rest, and get ready for the next week.

Sports Education Project in Fiji

If you love sports and working with kids, this program lets you do both in the heart of Fiji’s famous “Rugby Town.” You will help coach children in different sports, encourage them to stay active, and experience first-hand how sport brings Fijian communities together.

More info

Sigatoka is known for its strong rugby culture, but children here also enjoy soccer, netball, volleyball, and more. In this program you will work with local coaches to introduce basic skills, run drills, and organize fun games that build confidence and teamwork. You do not need to be a professional coach; enthusiasm, patience, and a love for sport are what matter most.

As you work with different age groups, you will help children develop not only physical skills but also values like respect, discipline, resilience, and fair play. Sessions might focus on ball handling one day and teamwork games the next, all while keeping things fun and encouraging. In some cases, passionate rugby players may even have the chance to train with local village teams.

Your coaching will usually take place at schools, community centers, or village fields, giving you a genuine feel for daily life in the area. Outside of the sessions, you will have time to connect with local families, learn about Fijian traditions, and see how sport shapes identity and community pride.

Schedule

Monday to Friday – Morning Activity (optional)

In the morning, you may join other community projects such as kindergarten teaching or local support activities, depending on availability and current needs.

Monday to Friday – Afternoon Activity (compulsory)

From 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, plan your coaching sessions together with the program coordinator, preparing drills, games, and objectives for the day. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, run your sports sessions at a school, community center, or village playground, tailoring the activities to the age and level of the children you are coaching.

Construction & Renovation in Fiji

Join a hands-on construction and renovation project on Fiji’s Coral Coast and help create safer, brighter spaces for local communities and school children. It is an active, physical program where you can see the results of your work take shape day by day.

More info

This project started as a response to a major cyclone that left many homes and community buildings damaged. Over time, it has grown into a long-term effort to rebuild and improve important local infrastructure. Today, much of the focus is on schools in rural areas, where classrooms can be overcrowded, buildings worn down, and facilities like safe play areas or sanitary blocks still missing or in poor condition.

As a participant, you will help repair classrooms, paint walls, improve playgrounds, and support basic construction tasks. You might help with simple carpentry, landscaping, or building new facilities that make it easier and safer for children to learn. The work is practical and team-based, and you will be guided by local coordinators who show you what needs to be done and how to do it safely.

The impact of your work goes beyond the physical structures. A brighter, better maintained school can boost pride in the community, encourage regular attendance, and help teachers do their jobs more effectively. By contributing your time and energy, you are helping create learning spaces that support the next generation and strengthen the community as a whole.

Schedule

Monday to Friday

After breakfast, travel with the group to the project site. From around 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM, with a break for lunch, you will work on construction and renovation tasks such as repairing, painting, or building facilities that support the local community and schools.

* The schedule can be changed as per local conditions and unforeseen circumstances
