What volunteering with Abroad Escape really looks like
Real Impact. Real People. Real Experiences.

Disabled Children Care — Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City • Supervised
The Reality: You are here to serve, not lead. The work is structured and you will assist trained local staff with basic care and daily routines rather than working independently.
The Challenge: This can be emotionally intense. Consistency and quiet patience matter more here than high energy or enthusiasm.
The Reward: The connection is non-verbal but profound. You will leave with a deep perspective on resilience and the genuine gratitude of the local staff you supported.

Construction Volunteer — Bali
Ubud • Physical & Active
The Reality: Community needs change weekly. You will work alongside local families on practical tasks—brickwork, painting, or repairs—shaping village spaces by hand.
The Challenge: It is hot, humid, and physically tiring. You will get dusty and sweaty. This is real labor, not a photo opportunity, but real impact.
The Reward: The impact is tangible. Unlike other projects, you can physically see the difference you made at the end of every single day.

Teaching Assistant — Kenya
Nakuru • Classroom Support
The Reality: You are here to support, not replace. You will work alongside local teachers in community schools, helping with grading, crowd control, and existing lessons.
The Challenge: Classrooms can be overcrowded and under-resourced. You must be adaptable and follow the school’s established routine, not try to change it.
The Reward: You’ll be the highlight of the students’ day. Expect high-fives at the gate and a profound connection with local teachers who truly value the extra hands.

Teaching Assistant — Zanzibar
Stone Town • Education Support
The Reality: Based in historic Stone Town, you act as a Teaching Assistant in primary or secondary schools, focusing largely on practicing English conversation and reading.
The Challenge: The pace is slower here (“island time”). Resources are basic, and you need to be proactive to find ways to be helpful within the classroom.
The Reward: Living in wonderful Zanzibar while watching students gain confidence in their language skills, these skills that will directly help their future tourism careers in their life.

Volunteer Childcare — Cape Verde
Tarrafal • Early Childhood Support
The Reality: You will support local educators in daycare centers with children aged 2-6. The work is playing, teaching, meals and hygiene, and offering calm attention.
The Challenge: Progress here is slow and quiet. It requires deep patience and consistency rather than big gestures. Be ready for high energy of young children.
The Reward: You build trust without words. You provide a safe foundation for children to learn, and in return, you experience the grounded, unhurried rhythm of Tarrafal life.
Is This Right For You?
We value honesty over high volume. You should apply if you:
-
Are adaptable, open-minded, and prepared to engage with local routines.
-
Value the structure of a 25-year-old operational network.
-
Understand that conditions in a developing country differ from home.
