Medical Outreach in Palawan
Based in Aborlan, Palawan, this program places you inside a rural healthcare system that serves communities with limited access to hospitals or medical facilities. Most residents rely heavily on the local Rural Health Unit, and that is where the program is based.
Whether you are a qualified medical professional or a pre-med student building real-world clinical experience, this program puts you on the ground doing meaningful community health work. You may support immunisation and pre-natal programs, visit elderly and housebound patients in the village, and help run hygiene education sessions in local schools.
Participation is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 4 to 5 people at a time, so every placement has a direct and visible role.
Medical Professional Track
Medical professionals work directly alongside local health workers, supporting pre-natal and post-natal clinics, immunisation drives, patient visits, and basic health consultations. You may assist with minor treatments and procedures under supervision, provide guidance on medications, and help monitor patient conditions in the community.
Pre-Med and Non-Medical Track
Non-medical participants and pre-med students focus on health education. This may include teaching hand washing, dental hygiene, and first aid in schools, supporting administrative tasks, assisting with community health surveys, and helping organise outreach workshops. No prior medical qualification is required for this track.
Important Supervision Note
This is supervised community healthcare support. You do not perform independent medical work. Your role depends on your study background, training, experience, local supervisor availability, patient needs, and local regulations. Professional conduct, hygiene, confidentiality, and respect for local staff are essential.
