Volunteer Food Waste and Community Support in Lisbon Portugal
This program addresses the critical intersection of food waste and urban poverty in Portugal’s capital. Volunteers operate within a circular economy model, collecting surplus food from local restaurants and partners to redistribute it to vulnerable individuals and families. Volunteer Placement
Volunteers are integrated into the daily operations of local food shops and community kitchens. The work is logistical and hands-on; your primary responsibilities include sorting surplus food, preparing nutritional baskets, and assembling meals for distribution. You will also assist in serving these meals to the community and maintaining a clean, professional kitchen environment.
Strict adherence to hygiene protocols is mandatory. This includes wearing hairnets, frequent handwashing, and following the guidance of local coordinators to ensure the food provided meets safety standards. This role requires flexibility and a collaborative mindset, as you will be working closely with local staff to respond to the community's needs in real-time.
