Welcome to China

Huidong Sea Turtle National Nature Reserve is the only sea turtle nature reserve on the Asian mainland and the northernmost in the world. It is the only site along China’s coast where female sea turtles come ashore to lay eggs, earning it the local name "Turtle Bay." Historically, it has been a key nesting ground for sea turtles. The reserve is also recognized as a Guangdong Province Youth Science Education Base and a National Science Education Base.

Huidong Turtle Conservation

Soak in Huidong’s scenic beach views in your spare time while caring for adorable and endangered sea turtles! This Turtle Conservation program takes place in Huidong City, Guangdong Province, where you'll help protect and rehabilitate local sea turtles. You'll assist in maintaining their environment, participate in breeding efforts, and work alongside local staff to support conservation initiatives. Through this program, you'll play a vital role in helping these endangered creatures thrive in the wild.

If you're passionate about marine conservation, this program offers a unique opportunity to work closely with one of the world’s most ancient and fascinating creatures—sea turtles.

The turtle reserve in Huidong is home to a variety of turtles from four different species! You’ll learn about these incredible animals as you observe their behaviors and actively contribute to their care.

Your responsibilities will include feeding the turtles, cleaning their enclosures, and maintaining their habitat by removing debris from the beach. Occasionally, you may also assist with scientific research and help raise awareness through educational programs that highlight the importance of sea turtle conservation.

Beyond the hands-on conservation work, this program is an opportunity to engage with local communities, develop cultural understanding, and interact with experienced conservationists and university students who share a passion for marine life.

The sea turtle reserve is located in a picturesque coastal town with China’s only natural sea turtle breeding site. It also happens to be the largest marginal sea in the country.
